Ijen Crater Banyuwangi Location

Located between Banyuwangi and Bondowoso districts, East Java. Mount Ijen itself has a height of 2386 meters above sea level. From Surabaya it takes 7 hours to drive with a distance of 276 km. While from the center of Banyuwangi it takes 1 and a half hours to arrive at the location. If from Denpasar Bali, about 186 km with a travel time of about 7 hours by land and crossing the sea.

Trip to Ijen Crater

The trip to Ijen Crater this time I took by motorbike from Surabaya. Departing at 2 pm from Surabaya, I arrived at the entrance of Ijen at the Paltuding post at around 12 pm. The trip to Ijen is via the Surabaya-Sidoarjo-Pasuruan-Probolinggo-Besuki-Bondowoso-Banyuwangi route.

When night began to come, I continued my journey in the midst of the darkness of the route I was taking. During the trip, there was very little lighting even on provincial roads. Even when I started heading towards Mount Ijen after coming from Bondowoso, I almost didn’t find people’s houses, so only the motorcycle headlights were the source of light at that time. In addition, I also had time to meet the permit post while in the middle of the trip to Ijen Crater.

After entering the Paltuding camp area and the entrance to Ijen Crater, you will find many stalls and many tourists are waiting for the entry counter to open. Because the entry counter only opened around 1 in the morning while I arrived around 12 at night, I couldn’t help but have to wait in the cold air of Mount Ijen. While drinking warm coffee, it’s not enough to warm the body in the midst of the cold that hit.

When the counter is open, the tourists immediately scramble and jostle in line to buy tickets. Because at that time I was there on a Saturday so the ticket price was around 7500 per person on holidays and could be different again on weekdays. The journey to the top of the Ijen crater was not over, I had to walk for about 2 hours with a fairly uphill dirt track. Not even a few tourists are tired and stop during the trip.

After 2 hours of walking I finally arrived at the top of Ijen Crater. Feeling tired and tired seemed to pay off seeing the beauty of the Ijen crater at that time. The clear sky without any clouds made the moonlight brightly illuminate the peak of Ijen. Even with the naked eye I can see the stars more clearly.

I started to go down to the crater to see the natural phenomenon of blue fire in Ijen Crater. Due to the large number of tourists at that time, the journey down had to be slow because they had to alternate with other tourists. After arriving in the crater area, the smell of sulfur is getting more and more pungent so that every tourist is required to wear a mask. Luckily at that time the blue fire that I expected was clearly visible that night. There are several points with a fairly large flame too.

Beautiful Morning View of Ijen Crater

After enjoying the blue fire, I went up to the top to get ready to wait for the sunrise and around 5 am the sun began to show its light. The view at that time seemed to pay off my struggle from Surabaya here. The beauty of Ijen Crater is clearly visible with its bluish-green crater water, sulfurous smoke that wafts through the air, the surrounding mountains and clear skies make the eyes spoil for the view.
